How would you paint or stain a old wood floor that has a gloss finish?
Don’t really want to sand or strip the floor, just hoping ther e is a product out there I could put on top?

Nothing that won't scratch off or peel on the shinny finish. Sorry
Anything you apply really needs to have a surface it can grip on to, unless there is product that will chemically change the surface. If the floor has a gloss finish it is probably slick too.

There are products out there especially made for wood floors to help you retain the gloss you wish to retain. These products can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowe's or any stores that you frequent even Amazon on line. Good luck to you!

I have had great luck with using just plain mop n glo for hardwood floors. I did this to a shiny 100+ year old hardwood floor and it came out beautiful! My next door neighbor had the same floor and was using one of those huge sanders, and mine looked better than his when he was done and he spent lots of late night sanding! Hard wood high shine floors will always be slippery so just take that into consideration and be careful!
