What kind of stove top do you have , burners or flat top ?
I use baking soda on my flat top. There are some spots I can't remove (my mother in law melted a cheap pan on top of the stove) but it works really well for food and grease.
How you clean it depends on what type of stove top you have. Could you let us know so we can give you a accurate answer?
Oven cleaner gets deep buildup off fast. I let my apt go for a while and needed to do multiple passes. Be sure to ventilate well and I recommend wearing a mask and leaving the area as soon as you are done spraying because it is basically sodium hydroxide (lye) that you are spraying which is extremely caustic.
