How do I clean the dryer vent?
The dryer is not functioning up to par. How do I clean a dryer vent? I need to troubleshoot all possibilities before calling a professional.
Thanks, Brenda

Hi Brenda. You need to disconnect the hose and vacuum it out. You can also get a brush for cleaning the inside of it. There are lots of steps, here's a link with details:

Here is a link for a dryer vent cleaning kit. It's recommended that the vent be cleaned once a year.
I have a chimney cleaning wire brush, and handles that screw together, fits the vent perfectly. Due to a remodel we had to run it about 25 feet or so, or it would blow out on the patio right by the barbecue.
Don't forget to clean inside, on dryer drum. If you use fabric softener, it can create a slick buildup on drum, affecting dryer performance.
Better to employ felted wool dryer balls and discontinue fabric softener, if being used currently.
I will get to it this weekend. Thanks for your help.

You didn't say if it was not heating or what the issue is. If it is a heating element problem, call someone because it is 220 and always hot.
Some dryers have belts that get loose and have to be replaced.
