Heat the hydrogen peroxide to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and maintain that temperature. If it is hotter than that, fewer seeds will germinate. Place your seeds in the strainer and lower them into the solution; keep them there for five minutes, swirling them once a minute to make sure they all have contact with the peroxide. Rinse the seeds with room-temperature water for one minute and throw away the hydrogen peroxide.
After you treat your seeds, immerse them in clean water and skim off any seeds that float on the surface. These “floaters” are more apt to harbor bacteria. You need to keep seeds moist for them to germinate, but mold and bacteria can grow in standing water. Sprout your seeds in clean water, rinsing rinse them at least twice a day, and drain them completely each time. Rinsing and draining them three or four times a day is even better.
