Throw rugs, area rugs or carpet?
Hi Judy,
I've been a carpet person most of my adult life so we invested in a carpet cleaner. The best cleaner that I've found is vinegar & water - about 20% vinegar & 80% water. I don't measure it so that is a rough guess. I have a very light beige carpet in the master bedroom that is old, but looks good when it's clean. I do that one with hydrogen peroxide & water - about 10% hydrogen peroxide & 90% water. Hydrogen peroxide can bleach a carpet so do a test where it won't show if you decide to try that method. I fill the carpet cleaner and run it back and forth to get everything clean and smelling fresh. Don't worry about vinegar odor. It's not that much and will go away when everything is dry. :) Wishing you the best.
Judy, it helps to be a little more specific. Some of us are old enough to remember when carpet was called a rug. And some are old enough to remember old folks calling carpet “rugs”, my GM never did learn to call it carpet. She had no carpet in her home so everything was a rug that laid on the floor. We would hang them out on a pretty day and beat the heck out of it. Although she had a proper rug beater, I used a corn broom or a stick. Then we would vacuum it. I have taken wool rugs down to the carpet cleaner where they have a machine to clean and dry them flat. It’s an a,azing piece of machinery
