Yes it is. Renovation is dirty and messy. No two ways about it. Gotta get ugly before you get pretty. Tape off all rooms adjoining the workspace, including any heating and cooling vents and don't forget your stove vent too. Wear the correct safety gear, goggles and proper dust mask. It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

Not really. Remodeling is always a challenge.
Chisel and a hammer. I have used a long handle ice scraper. Also wet it down to soften it a little and keep the dust down.
There's a scraper that you plug in and it vibrates. You move it along the thin set and it pops up. There doesn't seem to be an easy and fast way, but this did the trick.
