How do I hang 82 inch rods on plaster or drywall?
They sag in the middle and it’s very difficult to find studs where I need them.

Yes, for that long a rod it will require at least a center support.
See if these help.

First of all you need a center bracket. A 82" rod should have come with one. Can install with drywall anchors where you don't hit studs. Sold at hardware stores, looks like a hollow fat screw that you screw in where the screw goes for your brackets go.
Get yourself stud finder low cost great easy to use tool, find studs you need, there are some close to window they have to be there because they had to frame the window opening to put window in; Use drywall anchors called "Molly Bolts" these work best for heavy weight objects if cannot find studs; Definitely need center bracket for this long of rod-they are low cost, come in many styles, lenghts, sizes you'll need Molly bolts for these to if you haven't found stud. You need a support for the rod. You can actually use a long screw in hook. To find the wall studs, don't go out and pay for a stud finder. Use your electric shaver. Run it against the wall horizontally. The sound of the buzzing changes as it hits a stud. If you can't anchor into studs, you can use wall anchors. You can find all the things you need to do this at Lowe's or Home Depot.
