How can I replace the seats of my 4 piece chair set?

I’m refinishing a 4 piece chair set but they don’t have any seats. What’s the best replacement way to make a seat? I’m giving them away. If I make cushions which generic color do I use?

...and I would go for a neutral color --- maybe on the darker side if they are used for dining. ...like dark grey
