How to finish a wooden kitchen counter to make it food safe & durable?
Plan on making an untreated pine board kitchen counter. Would like to paint/ stain it in medium grey. What products should be used to make it both durable and safe for food preparation?

You use a food safe oil finish. Lots of different brands.
Do not paint. The butcher block oil needs to penetrate the wood. You can also use mineral oil or salad bowl finish.
Never ever place raw food on counter. Invest in a number of cutting boards for food prep. Your counters will thank you and so will your food.

Let’s be clear, food safe oil is not the same as making your counter safe for food.
