Both favor cooler weather and some shade. Not sure of water needs. They can be grown in large containers and absolutely love fertilizer especially manure from Horse, Cow, or Rabbits.
Not sure of the reliability on this but my Dad always kept me out of cucumbers during that time of month all women face.
