My kitchen cabinets are embarrassingly greasy. Please share your degreasing tips with me so I don't have to cringe every time I glance at my cabinets.
Make a baking soda / hydrogen peroxide paste and scrub with a soft child's toothbrush. Wipe down with a damp microfiber cloth. Then shine with a wood polish. I prefer OrangeGlo because of the scent.
Dampen a clean, dry cloth with undiluted white vinegar, and wipe down greasy cabinets. Rinse your cloth with warm water, wring out most of the moisture, and use it to rinse the cabinetry. Dry the damp surfaces with a paper towel, but note any still-sticky spots that need a do-over.
TSP, trisodium phosphate, or Krud Kutter.
Try TSP or a spray de-greaser. You can find both at a home improvement store or grocery store.
The best degreaser can be purchased in your local auto store. Use Maguiars Rim and Wheel cleaner. It will not harm the cabinets and will degrease it. Spray some on a small area, maybe 4 x 4 inches and let it set. I remove the cabinet door and lay it flat. Then after ten minutes scrub with a tooth brush. Wipe it clean and repeat if needed. This is great for those cabinets that have hardly ever been clean, or not cleaned for a long time. This is the easiest and best way for those really grimy situations.
I have used original Dawn dishwashing liquid (the kind for hand washing). I figure if it will clean petroleum from wildlife caught in oil spills, it will clean anything, safely. You probably want to wipe on some mixed with water, let it sit a few minutes and then use a scrubby sponge. WD 40 or prewash spray are two other options if this doesn’t work. For really heavy build up use a putty knife to gently scrape the worst off.
I use Dawn and baking soda, or even vinegar and baking soda. The liquids are both solvents which help soften the grease. The baking soda is an abrasive, which helps the grease scrub off. It’s a little messy, but that old grease and grime has to come off some way. Even the kitchen steam has grease in it, so it builds up fast. Best wishes! ☺️
