  • If you want to give it a go, you can chance it and see what happens. This is LA after all. Just may not be as prolific as as it was last season. I have only grown once. See if these help you.

Thank you so much for the help Naomie & Erin i think i'm just gonna leave the root on the ground and see what happens next. Beside that plant i've also planted "kabucha" asian squash.

eh Fransisco There are 3 types of Sunflowers-Annuals(reseed themselves or need to plant) Perennial(grow thru out year & live for many years)Hybrids used in Agriculture(mixture of Annual/Perennialused for high yield, durability, pest resistance

Roots are usually underground. Your asking about stalk/stem/vine, it's a gourd, if you are in mild enuf of climate it may continue to produce several crops can't hurt anything to leave it & see it seems to be doing well may need to cover if you get any frost just throw a pillow case over it if you need to have frost protect. If you are on Diabetes medication you should becareful eating much of this Benefite & side effects https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrgBCQdTm6c

My husband us Vietnamese. He cuts it the long way, stuffs it with ground pork mixture( add onions, mushrooms, or what you like) and boil it to make soup. Eat with rice.
