Have you checked into slip covers on amazon.com (it is very hard to beat their prices and selection).
It depends upon what type of chair....Do you want a slip cover that can be removed and washed or do you want to do more of a reupholstering job?

Hello there! Chair covers really change up your furniture so much and make them look new. My grandmother used to make her chair covers out of strong fabric. She would just make a pattern of the cushion, and also make a pattern of the chair itself and off she went. There is a video that looks like some of the chairs my grandmother redid.
