Hi Jean, Here's a link with lots of good information: https://homeguides.sfgate.com/much-sun-should-give-gardenias-99842.html
Good luck!
Hi Jean,
In hot climates, gardenias grow best with morning sun and afternoon shade. They also grow well in light filtered shade under tall trees, such as oaks or pines. They can tolerate full sun in cooler areas, especially if their root area is covered with organic mulch. Set gardenias growing in containers in bright light or filtered shade with no direct sun. Gardenias grown indoors should receive at least six hours of light through a sunny window that faces south or west.
Hope this helps!
Here is a great article on Gardenia. I have some in full son and they grow beautifully. They are also easy to root...just break off limbs and stick them in a bucket of water. If you pick a bouquet, pinch off the wilted flowers and the greenery will root.

6 to 8 hours a day.
You
Hi Jean. I'm Cindy. Gardenias growing in containers need bright light. Gardenias grown indoors should get 6 to 8 hours of direct light. Either way, make sure the soil is moist and well drained. Gardenias need at least one inch of rain each week. Good luck Jean.
