How do we install a fireplace insert?

We have an 1977 brick fireplace that’s totally inefficient and want to put an insert in instead also put Sheetrock over where the giant floor to ceiling fireplace was put a nice surround and mantle.

Gas or wood?
If it was me I would pay a local business that sells wood stoves to install it. That way it is done by someone who has done this before and has the tools needed also. We have a wood stove ourselves and had the company we bought it from install it. Cost about $700 but was well worth it.
