My kitchen cabinets are embarrassingly greasy. Please share your degreasing tips with me so I don't have to cringe every time I glance at my cabinets.
I use a Brillo pad. If you don't want to do that, get a trash bag, put your oven racks in it along with enough ammonia to cover them. Let it sit for a couple days. They should be pretty clean by then. Rinse well before returning the racks to the oven.
It would be difficult to fit some oven racks in a dishwasher. Further, I'd be concerned about damaging the chrome finish with electric dish detergent.
It's safer to scrub by hand. If you want to save your racks from repeated cleaning, remove the ones not in use from your oven when cooking, or wipe them down after oven has cooled to 100 degrees.
Place about 6 or 8 dryer sheets into your bathtub, and set your oven racks on top of the dryer sheets. Then turn on the hot water and fill the tub until the racks are covered by several inches of water.
Add 1/4 cup of Dawn and let them soak overnight.
When the waiting period is over, grab one of the dryer sheets from the tub and use it to “scrub” the oven racks. A lot of the “gunk” should slide right off!
My oven racks don't fit in my dishwasher. I do them up in the backyard or in the bathtub. You have many great options here! One of them will work for you.
Put the oven racks in a plastic garbage bag, spray with oven cleaner, tie bag, leave overnight (outside), wash with hot soapy water, rinse with vinegar/water.
I just put my oven racks in the bath tub in very hot water and add dawn dish soap and let them sit overnight. Just rinse and dry ready to put back in the oven.
Place them in a garbage bag and spray with oven cleaner. Let sit over nite. Scrub and hose off the next day
For standard cleaning, use a soapy sponge and hot water to wipe the racks. For stubborn messes, soak oven racks in hot water, dish soap, and a couple scoops of baking soda. Let the racks soak in this mixture for 15 to 30 minutes before scrubbing clean with a soft sponge.
