How do we stop our dog from urinating in the house?

Bitter apple spray works for some dogs. You just have to be adamant and tell him NO when you see him start to scout. We rescued a male dog in October and are going through the same thing. My house is worse as there is a constant parade of male dogs in and out of my house and yard. On this dog, the bitter apple spray is working. On my previous male dog it didn't and I just had to be patient and train him. Here are some helpful sites!

This weekend everyone is going out of town for the holiday weekend. I will have 9 dogs (3 male), 6 cats, a canary and a dragon. Hope the weather holds! Going to be a busy weekend in my small house and yard!

You can crate train your dog and take him out to the bathroom on a regular schedule. Dogs will not normally urinate where they sleep and you may have to backtrack on house training your dog. It may take a few weeks of crate training before you can feel confident he won't pee in the house. LOTS of positive rewards for going outside. When you do allow him to be free in the house you have to watch him carefully and reprimand with a sharp NO and a trip outside so he understands outside is the place to go--not inside. You can clean all the areas he pees on with a enzyme cleaner to try and get rid of any previous urine smell. You can have a professional carpet cleaner come in as well to locate the urine spots and do a special carpet cleaning. Has your dog been neutered? This may help. You should talk to your vet as well for some helpful ideas and to rule out any medical issues.

Neuter him(?) Everytime he gets up for anything let him out immediately no hesistation. Get a small can(soup) put some marbles,rocks,jingle bells in it duck tape them in it securely, when he marks in front of you toss it at him and yell NO then take him out right then & there ASAP.They usually do it if they hear something outside or especially if someone comes to door, if you come home or bring something new into house.So put it buy door for when you come in. Have several cans so you can get to them asap in different areas. Now is the time to train him correctly so you don't think/feel getting rid of him later is an option for what people label as behavioural issues. It takes work & patience. If he is not neutered it is of upmost importance that you get him neutered. It will make your lives together much more fun.

I've heard that they don't do that after they have been fixed.

Have you taken him to the vet to rule out a medical issue?

He’s healthy and has not been neutered. Will talk to my husband about that. Thanks for everyone’s advice/help.
