Start by getting those thin velvet covered hangers. Maybe reconfigure the space, so you get 2 levels of hanging. Leave space for maxi dresses, jumpsuits. Put a wider / deeper shelf up high to put baskets, or cubes,... for items you don’t use that often. Only put in seasonal clothing in closet. Out of season, box up and put in storage, under the bed ... also use those hanging tower like cubes that attach to the poll, fill with rolled up skirts,T-shirt’s,...
Can you adjust the rail. Position it further down to accommodate your tops, then add another rail higher for skirts and trousers or visa versa.
Raise the bar!
-Raise the present bar to the highest height that you can still reach up to hang up a hanger.
-Either install a second bar (wall to wall the width of the closet) or
-Install one or two of these expandable, adjustable lower rods which hang from the upper rod.
Hang multiple items on one hanger: skirts and suit jackets, multiple skirts, blouses with vests or jackets, multiple pairs of slacks on a heavy duty hanger.
Sweaters should always be folded, to avoid stretching. Slacks can be folded and placed in drawers. Fold scarves, roll up belts, etc. Store out of season clothing in see through under bed bins on wheels.
