There are many options to duplicate a ship lap wall: wallpaper, self adhesive panels, regular wood etc. what is the cheapest yet most original looking?

Here's a great example using plywood! It's easy, inexpensive, and looks so nice! This is the route I would take if I were to create a faux shiplap wall in my home.

Use old recicaled boards . paint or don't paint.
I really think the faux paper or sticker kinds don't look as good as wood. Your wood can be thin picket fence wood upcycled or even plywood which is cut and stained.
I've used both tongue and groove boards and underlayment plywood cut into strips. Underlayment is very inexpensive and you can have it cut at the hardware store.
