About 5 or 6’ square. There are 4 clay pots I painted blue and white. You can see one behind the angel. The water flows into the pots and overflows into the fountain base. It is a maintenance headache.
How do I remake a courtyard fountain that is worn and falling apart?
The fountain works but the 4 spigots are rusted and one fell off. It is difficult to keep the water clear even with the circulating pump and chlorine and I’m thinking of converting it as a giant planter instead of a fountain but would like to keep the fountain features in tact in case I wanted a fountain again.
I was going to suggest converting it into a planter even before I read your comment - I totally think you should do that!
I would build wooden planter boxes that insert into the opening, but then you need to have a way to drain water out of the planter boxes.
You should line it with pond liner to protect it from chemicals in soil and mineral deposits etc. from having dirt,fertilizers & water in it if going to use for planter. It may leach into fountain then cannot reuse it & it may/ will deteriorate the fountain walls etc. itself. I say restore it,you have plants everywhere already, just remove the parts and clean them up in vinegar to remove rust,replace if needed. Get pump that circulates more water per hr. All water features aquariums need time to adjust & build environment so it maintains itself. It could even take a month or more. That would be better solution. you can get bio cleaner to help break down waste in fountain I use it in my huge fish aquarium & also turtle tank. It's a beautiful fountain many people pay lots of money to get them installed/built,you should use it.
