How do I get rid of gnats that are on my plants?
How can I get rid of gnats? Have them in or on my plants. Tried spraying with vinegar water and few drops dish soap. Not working.
Homemade sprays for a variety of pests can be made by combining 1 tablespoon of dish soap with 1 quart of water in a spray bottle. This provides a 2 percent solution that is effective against a variety of soft-bodied insects. Test the spray on an inconspicuous leaf before applying to the entire plant. If the leaf is damaged, try a 1 percent solution of 2 tablespoons dish soap mixed with 1 quart of water.
Castile and all-natural soaps contain fatty acids. Fatty acids are the active ingredients in insecticidal soaps. Mix 1 tablespoon of soap to 1 quart of water for a 2 percent solution, or 2 teaspoons to 1 quart of water for a 1 percent solution. If you have hard water, use bottled water to prevent soap scum buildup on the plant. Pour into a spray bottle and shake vigorously before applying to the plant and soil. Some plants are sensitive to soap solutions; always test the solution on a leaf and wait 24 hours before applying to the entire plant.

Hi June, The best thing I have found is Hot Shot No Pest Strips. You can buy them at Walmart or Lowes and they work really well. They have a hanger on them if you wanted to hang them on the pot.
Here is a link to check them out.

those little pests are almost always due to overwatering. Stop watering for a while. It will kill them. Your plants will recover.
I had a terrible gnat problem and the vinegar traps worked perfectly! Simply place a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar, a few drops of dish soap, and a tablespoon of sugar in a bowl and stir. Set your bowl in an area where gnats are prevalent, such as near your plants. This took care of my problem in just a couple of days!
A few drops of Dawn and water in a spray bottle wil get rid of gnats/
