Winding the ribbon around toilet paper cardboard works. Tape the end with a small piece of clear plastic tape or a straight pin. Fold and use an elastic band around the ribbon. There's two I use.

You can use a tension rod in a cabinet or closet
Place them in an appropriately sized box without a lid, for easy accessibilty. They can then be stored on a closet shelf or in a shallow drawer, on a shelf, etc.
