How do I start a flowerbed where none exists?
The home I moved into has no flower beds, to my dismay. While I know how to plant flowers, how do I start a flower bed ? Is there any preparation I can do over the Winter to help with my Spring flower beds ?I live in northwestern PA, if that makes any difference.Please help,~ Norie ~

Many years ago I moved to a home with no flower beds. I made them myself. Since you live in snow country you might have to wait till spring. Here are some great sites to get you started!

The ground may be too hard to dig right now and spring bulbs should be planted in the fall. You could use a spading fork, shovel or roto-tiller and don't forget the gloves. Either way you go it will not be all that easy.
I was in my early 20's when I started a small garden in back yard. I was sore in shoulers and back for days. Haven't tried the rear tiller, it may be easier to control. You''ll need to break up the clods of dirt and remove any large rocks and tree roots.
