Most trees should be prune in late winter.
Now when tree is dormant is best; if it's citrus they do not go dormant so best to do them when growth has slowed down
Deciduous trees can be pruned when dormant (no leaves). If it's a flowering tree, it's best to trim it right after it flowers. I prune pines and conifirs late winter
