How do I paint a slick paneled wall?
My walls are finished with 8x4 paneling that has a peel off veneer in a walnut color. It is totally smooth and Command strips don't stick to it. Do I need to do something before painting it an off white color?

Hi Wendy, sorry you are having a problem. Hope this will help you. Painting Over Peel & Stick Veneer | Home Guides | SF Gate
Clean your peel and stick veneer with a degreasing cleanser to help ensure that your primer and paintwill not lift or peel. Dilute 2 to 3 tablespoons of liquid dish soap in about 1 quart of warm water, and mix it well. Dip a sponge into the soapy water, and wring it out until it is barely damp.
Yes, clean it with TSP to get any dirt off it and it will also take the sheen off the veneer. Then prime it, let it dry and paint. Problem I can see is if it is peel of veneer it may take off more finish then you want so be careful. Don't soak it and test it in a hidden area to see what happens first.
You need to use a binding primer. Go to a stand alone paint store to see what they recommend. Then you can paint. Do you know if paneling is over drywall? If so, you can just remove? Just a thought
Hi Wendy, Definitely use a good bonding primer and make sure it is nice and clean first. If it is really shiny I would light sand it first.
