Here's several ideas that may help you out. Good luck!
lay out your pattern using two old garden hoses to get attractive curves .... then edge them with flexible garden bordering .. .https://plantedwell.com/lawn-garden-edging-ideas/ you want at least 24" wide ( 30" is better ), then remove all the grass/weeds in the 'walk way', or simply cover with layers of cardboard ( will eventually kill the greenery ); cover with sand/gravel/small washed river rocks or mulch -- pinebark, shredded cypress, etc.

Not sure how easy this is but I gathered rocks from our property, it was actually more time consuming. Tomorrow on my blog I'll be sharing a natural walk path that's super easy.

If you lay patio blocks you must have a sand base of 3-4 inches which is tamped. The plastic borders, which are now available, can be pegged into place to hold it. If you use the small gravel other than sand you can use this as your final finish. It all depends on what kind of look you want. Use the garden hose to set out your pattern before you start to dig out the grass, etc. If you do decide on the gravel you can take care of new weeds by spraying with a vinegar and hot water mix.
If you can your hands on pallets, pull them apart and separate the boards then lay them down where you want your path. Side by side to the width you want your path, a path like this your feet will stay dry when its wet outside but please be careful because wood will get slippery. But this can be either a free way to go or you would have to pay just a bit.
