How about making some trivets both for yourself and for gifts?
I have painted tiles using a paint that you bake in the oven. I have done 8x8 tiles in a grape theme, and used them to set hot dishes on. You can also use napkins to decopodge them, but even with a good sealer you can't set hot items on them. The sealer I used on the napkins tiles was Rust-Oleum triple thick glaze.
How big? I would certainly keep a few for future repairs. Then make coasters or trivits as gifts.
