Hi Agnes. I'm Cindy. Gardenias do best in the shade. I live in Zone 5 and I plant Gardenias in the middle of May. Right about Mother's Day. Remember to clip off dead flowers and the plant will grow back twice as many. I like to grow my flowering plants in groups rather than one here and one there. I also make a solution of a gallon of water mixed with a tablespoon of Epson Salt. I use this solution on all my plants, including my vegetable garden. It puts enzymes back into the soil and plants thrive with it. Repeat every two weeks. It would work great on your Gardenias. Good luck Agnes.
