Is there any way to "fake" a missing drawer in a dresser?
We had a dresser stored in a shed while the house it belonged to was rented. After the last renter moved and we were cleaning the storage shed, we found that one of the drawers to this dresser had been removed and was missing. It is a fairly nice piece of furniture, made of real wood, but we are at a loss as to whether there is a way to make it useful again, or do we need to trash it.

First I would see if the remaining drawers could be placed so only the top drawer space is missing. Then I would look for baskets to place in the opening for the missing top drawer.
Never trash a piece of real wood furniture, ever. Donate if you do not want to upcycle, others love pieces like this. No need to trash, you have 2 options. You can make another drawer, or just make a false front and just glue to the front of the dresser. My vote is to build a new drawer. Just change out the hardware so that it all matches once you have completed your refinishing process.
use baskets to store in the blank. if drawers are side by side remove the other drawer also.
How about putting a shelf in it. You could put books (if big enough) or small keepsakes on it.
