Hi John, you can apply lime anytime between fall and early spring. Just make sure you don't put the lime on a dry, wilted lawn or a soggy, wet lawn. This video will show you how to apply it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwnTCqqKg3w

Lime can be applied Spring or Fall. There are directions on the bag, for the typeand brand of spreader you have. It's best to apply at half the recommended amount, and apply in a cross hatch pattern (East to West, then North to South).
Do not fertilize your grass after applying lime, to prevent burning your lawn.
Lime is available as pelletized or in fine (dust) form. It's best to wear a mask and protective clothing, eye protection when using lime.
If your lawn is full of weeds, you probably need lime to raise the soil pH to about 6.6 to 6.8 (weeds thrive in acidic and compacted soils).
A soil test will tell you what your needs are, specific to your lawn.
