How do I protect my painted white doors to make it easier to clean?
I just painted my hall doors white. Is there some kind of protector I can put around the knob to make it easier to clean? I was thinking about some kind of clear stick on, like contact paper, but that sounds tacky.

Hi Kathie, I would put two coats of a polycrylic over the entire door to make it so you can literally wash them if need be. I like the minwax polycrylics but there are lots of different kinds as long as you go with a polycrylic (as opposed to poly urethane) it won't yellow your white paint.
Try using something like Pledge. I do this for my backsplash in the kitchen. It makes it so easy to clean. I am sure it would work on the door. Just remember to add more Pledge after cleaning.
If it is semi- or gloss paint, they can be wiped clean. There may be something that is large enough to go around the base of the knob. It would be similar to a ceiling medallion but much smaller.
You should have used a paint that is a satin , semi gloss or eggshell , these are all washable paints. But nothing does the trick like magic eraser ! It gets o of smudges off doors and walls like magic !
Hi Kathie. I'm Cindy. What about something like press-n-seal? It sticks wherever you put it.
I have seen plexiglass shields that are screwed to the door sold for this purpose. Kind of like thick contact paper! Me, I think I'd use a Magic Eraser. It might be for some doors a decorative metal plate that fits around the knob assembly might work. (The fingerprints wouldn't show on that)
