Where is it Now?
why do you want to put it in pot? why not garden? did you get it bare root and want to plant it? Anytime Daylilies are extremely hardy plants. Just make sure it has good drainage (water should be able to run out of the bottom) and it is watered well since you are in summer heat. Are you putting it outside or has it been outside? New plant with leaves?it needs acclimated to heat & full sun(which it needs to bloom) just start with shady area then move into sun slowly increasing an hour a day until it's ready for full exposure,so it doesn't burn the foliage. if no leaves just root/tuber your good to go, just put it in pot and put in sun. Keep in same pot til really rootbound(will need more water) then remove cut into or pull apart and plant the pieces you'll haver lots more. the more root bound in pot the more it will bloom. You can give it Miracle GRow Bloom Booster water soluble fertilizer(get online) 2x a year to promote lots of flowers. This company is in your area the all purpose would be best https://atlanticfertilisers.co.za/retail/ Or if you can, get chicken poop from someone you know.
Here in NY, my day lilies are very forgiving. I transplant a plant whenever I get around to it and have never lost a day lily. One time I had some waiting to be planted under a layer of mulch (just the roots covered), never got to them and they are still blooming every year. In the shade!
