How can I restore this?

I have 2 stands I’m restoring. The bottom of the doors are slotted- almost like a lovered door. I’d like to remove them. Any ideas???
They could be replaced with plywood and stained or painted to match. Another idea is to used decorative metal, or wire mesh. I hope you'll share it when it's done!
