How do I recover a fabric bench?
I was given a bench for my dog to sit on at our kitchen window. The top/lid is in ok shape. The base & sides are scratched up and definitely need covered. Should I cover overtop of the old stuff or remove the old fabric? I’m also concerned about getting fabric around the corners and making it look nice.

You could make a simple, removable and washable cover by first pre-washing your fabric, then laying it face down over top. Fabric should fall to the floor, all the way around (if it doesn't, add a piece in the back) with a little extra for a hem. Pull the fabric at the corners as though you are wrapping a gift. You'll have triangular sections sticking out from the four corners. Pin straight down from each corner to the floor and sew those lines. Turn it right side out and see if it fits, or if adjustments need to be made. Then trim off all the excess fabric from the corners and hem.

How To Reupholster an Ottoman Tutorial
A solution that may be easier and more practical than reupholstering the ottoman may be making, or having a slip cover made, to go over it. That way it could be taken off and washed when you needed to.
I agree with Molly about a slipcover instead of recovering this. Especially since it is for the puppy to use. Much easier to remove and throw a slipcover in the washing machine once a month. Plus if you want to change the pattern or look just get or make a new slip cover. We have 2 dogs and know that the slipcover idea is very practical and anything that makes life easier is a good thing.
Definitely slip cover! You can use bath mats, just sew sides and a top. Or get painters fabric drop cloths, lots of fabric for about $12.
It's not that hard to recover a bench seat. Be sure you take the old cloth off. Deside if you want fancy or plan. For a Dog make sure you pick sturdy cloth that can withstand his nails. There are a lot of simple apps that will guide you. I did my boat seats and had to have the wood parts cut out.
