How do I get out permanent stains?
I have a down jacket that is about 15 years old and it has a lot of permanent stains on it. I have tried everything you can think of to remove them, but nothing works. This jacket has been washed but I never put it in the dryer on a heat setting so the stains were never "set in". I always let it air dry and then put it in the dryer with a sneaker on the air cycle to puff up the down material fill. The shell where the stains are is made from nylon.

The jersey has red and black trim and numbers on it. I know I can't use bleach. I've been soaking it in cold water with Dawn and Krud Kutter. Help me please!
Nylon shouldn’t stain, so what are the stains? Coffee with milk in it? Food with oils in it?
I think that the key is that nylon is a petroleum product and oil based spills will be oleophyllic.
Try a grease-cutting treatment and let it soak into the surface, then scrub it with a soft toothbrush.
Then warm water wash, after pre-rinsing.
Put some Dawn dish soap on the areas scrub it in and let it soak/set then rinse with warm water get all dish soap out before you put it in wash machine or it will over flow with foam if washer should ever get full of suds even over flowing a tablespoon or 2 of downy added asap will stop it
Hi Susan, pour some dawn ultra directly on the stains and scrub with a toothbrush. After you do that let it sit for a while, maybe an hour and then wash it. I have had some stubborn stains that this worked on.
Dawn and peroxide on the stain, if oil put baking soda and dawn on it scrub with toothbrush
So far I have tried Dawn ultra (2X more grease cleaning power) and scrubbed it with a scrub brush on one of my jackets and it got out about 75% of the stains. Tomorrow, if I have the time I will try the combo of Dawn, peroxide and baking soda on it again to see if I can get out the reminding 25% of the stains. If this does not work I just might try dyeing the jacket black as it looks like garage, but I do not want to get rid of it because it is some warm in the very cold.
