I would sand it and refinish it, if it were my table. Children do have accidents, but hopefully the child could help you sand it and participate and fixing the error. It would make them feel better fixing a mistake and also give you pleasant time together! (unless he/she is too young of course). Hope you get it fixed, Kimberly :)

Spread Acetone over the rest of the table - Sand it down. - Re finish as required.
Sand, sand, sand! I love my black and decker orbital sander. Only about 25 bucks but has held up really well over the years and gets the job done.
