What is best washing machine to buy?

My 19 yr. old whirlpool washer/dryer needs to be replaced and after shopping on line, I saw that most people are still satisfied with agitator models. What should I look for in the new models? What questions should one ask about installation? Thanks

I have had my Sears Kenmore washer and drier for 18yrs! Has lasted through all my children’s laundry and still going. I heard that Sears is not going to sell appliances anymore, they are having a gigantic sale now!!!

Jane! Take a look at the top machines listed. Also, if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's you can talk with someone there who can advise you. I believe it is all in a personal preference for you and not so much what others are buying. Good luck. I know it is a big investment and you want to get it right!! I am inclined to go more basic. I don't like all the extra cycles and so forth because I usually use just 1-2 cycles. I would tell them what you have, and if you were happy with it then go with something similar. I always figure the more there is on the panel, the more that could go wrong. Just ask about efficiency on your electric and water bill, etc.

Hi Jane, I have had both the agitator models and the new models that do not have one. I prefer the agitator as I think it gets clothes cleaner. The ones without the agitator is probably gentler on clothes but I do not think cleans as well. To be honest, I think the more basic the machine, the less that can go wrong with it. Make sure it comes with the right pigtail and if not, are they willing to replace it for the right one. They should have free delivery and setup. It basically comes down to what your preferences are and what you would like it to do. They have all kind of gadgets on them now but then the more can go wrong with it. Whirlpool is a good brand as you can see from owing one for 19 years.

The pigtail is the cord and plug-in part. They make a couple of different types.

Samsung top loader nothing over the top don't need all the crazy bells & whistles just largest size stainless tub so I can wash all pet bedding & king size bedding; had front loader barely lasted 5yrs also could not pause, stop as I need;Free delivery, but no free install or removal of old appliances, they say it's free but not really cost of replacement cord if you do not keep yours and hoses if they won't install without new replacement from them. have them deliver it & just do it yourself.Sears completely gone here(AZ) outlet & online sales barely Gone are the simple well made longlasting products, how else will companies make so much money everything is disposable

Pigtail is an openend cord,a cord with only one plug on it. Washers only have one plug because the openend with wires is connected directly onto washmachine. Do you mean the drain washer hose fits into in/by wall is not draining? the installer will not the touch drain,he will only deliver washer attach pigtail cord and put drain pipe in and push washer back where you want it,maybe remove your old one ; you can try to unplug drain yourself start with some baking soda & Dawn dish soap in the drain then slowly add some vinegar it will fizz alot & let it sit in drain then slowly add some boiling water and see if it clears it. if not go to hardware store and get small snake to put in drain to open it up then try baking soda concoction again. if you cannot get it cleared you may need plumber . you can do this Jane

I have a front loader now and hate it. Top loader can adjitate and soak. When I but a new one it will definitely be a top loader.

Use Consumer's Report magazine for their tests and ratings on washers. I'd NEVER buy one without this testing. If you do not subscribe or want to pay for an on line subscription , your library likely has it.

We bought ours at Menards, they are LG brand. We love them. No agitator and the clothes last longer and get as clean or cleaner. You do have to buy HE approved ( and most well known brands include a type that is HE). They use less water, are easier on clothes and play a tune when the clothes are done! LG means Life is Good and we find it lives up to its name. No I do not work for any company associated with them, we truly just like them. You can get top loading (which I prefer) or front loading. It is your choice.

I will only get top loader washers. The front loaders need regular cleaning since they use less water. Mold, mildew, and sour odors. Can't use regular detergent. A lot of people want back from front loaders to top loaders. I want clean clothes and not clean a machine every few cycles. My time is precious.Spend more time on whats important. Features and settings vary from brand and model. One thing for certain though is that with the front loading machines, you can always have a flat folding surface permanently on top of the appliances.
