What is needed to paint the outside of a tub?
First, understand that I want to paint ONLY the outside of the tub. I have a very small bathroom with little ventilation and do not want to mess with toxic fumes. I have seen a spray by Rest-Oleum that will work on tile and porcelain but only comes in white. It is either paint or some type of wall covering - paneling, textured covering or whatever works best. I have been stuck on this remodel for a year. Painted once, hated the color, have painted again and am satisfied with the color. Sorry about the picture. The bathroom is too small to get a picture of the entire tub - unless I take the toilet out - LOL!

All paint will chip or peel unless you are very careful with it. Reg spray paint would be my first thought unless you do the epoxy.
maybe try this instead? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxg0xrbZGvM
If you want it to last you are stuck with fumes.Alkyd (oil) coating will last the longest, waterborne product will do a good job too. Latex sucks for this.
Wash well - you have an unbelievable soup film on the tub.
Scuff with 400 grit sand paper then clean with clear water.
Prime with a primer like Styx. (designed for adhesion)
Top coat 2 or three coats following mfrs instructions.
Grab your bubble bath, candles and champaign and enjoy !!
You could try adding a design to the bland front using stick ons (Wallies), stenciling, or strips with Wasabi Tape.

Lowe's has paint especially made for bathtubs, sinks & toilets. Any of those will work good. If you're going to hand paint, use those paints on a palette & work that way.
