These kids are beautiful! It looks like some kind of marigold hybrid (there are lots of varieties). They are quite hardy, in general. They love sun and will get bushy if you dead-head cut after the flower has bloomed. Moderate water. I live in Texas, too, and they can take the heat. If it IS a marigold, it's perennial. Anybody else???

I think they are Ranuncula
The angle isn't "head on", but they appear as Ranuncula.you used to see fields of them in Carlsbad, CA.
The leaves and stems look like marigolds but I think poppies look the same. Do not know what Ranunculas look like.
Yes they are Ranunculas-they are definitely not marigolds ( no smell to them)
