How to remove mildew from wood?

We live on 13 acres of beautiful Pennsylvania forest. Our 20 year old wood Andersen windows are showing mildew along the edges of the glass. What’s the best way to remove and then to maintain? Many thanks!

is the mildew INSIDE or out? the best thing that will kill MOLD on wooden/painted surfaces and keep it from returning is CONCROBIUM; Most other products will remove the surface mold/mildew/algae but won't kill the spores that are actually 'in' the surface of where it's growing. it will eventually come back.

    Hi, Lisa,

I envy your location! Your windows sound lovely-you were very wise in your choice.

Once you're eradicated the mold and windows are dry, sand and restain/seal with a Marine grade poly, using 2-3 coats. Let dry well between coats. Sand lightly and tack cloth between coats.

If you have mulch within 20 feet of these windows, it's most likely contributing to your problem , in the form of arterially fungus. Try regularly stirring up the mulch, to reduce recurrance.

Wonderful—especially regarding mulch. Cannot wait until spring to get busy. Have a peaceful weekend!

Just plain white vinegar will kill the mildew spores. Consider wearing a mask to protect yourself during the cleaning process.
