Tall. Electric may help
Agreed, it needs to be TALL at least six feet.
Deer can easily jump an 8' fence. You'll need to erect one at 8', and a second fence, at least 4' high, installed 4' behind the 8' fence. Deer appear to have problems with depth perception.
Fishing line!! 30 lb test is strong enough to not break too easily but thin enuf that the deer don't see it. I have also used very fine bird netting. String between fiberglass posts or whatever you want to use as upright.
Deer have poor eyesight so they run into these things and it scares them because they can't see it, netting is best and it really isn't very obvious from a distance because the deer can't stick their heads through between the strands like they do with fishing line. I've used this in 2 settings and it works extremely well. If using fishing line do at least 3 to 4 strands 8 inches apart starting 1' above ground and going up to 3 feet. I prefer the netting if you don't mind the visuals.
I get a chuckle Every Time I Think of a deer running into something they can't see and what that would look like if I could catch it on camera😀😀😀
My neighbor has an 8' fence between our yards and the deer still can jump it. I would suggest that you try putting mothballs around the perimeter of the yard. They say that it turns them away from eating your flowers, so I imagine it may even
turn them away from going in the yard at all. It's worth a try. It does work with your
gardens. They just don't like it.
You don’t. My friend had a 10’ net fence and they just jumped in, did their damage & jumped back out again. It did deter somewhat but it was very discouraging as she was a true gaurdner and her yard was beautiful but for the plants the deer enjoyed. CD
