Till or dig the soil to turn it over. Rake out any debri. Add peat moss and compost and dig it in.

Hi! Most areas have a local state extension office that will test your soil for you. There's usually a fee, but, it isn't expensive. For example Penn State extension has a testing service for soil that only costs nine dollars. Many agricultural extensions also offer these services. That way you will know exactly what you are working with.
