I rent and can only use small nails and thumb tacks. I would like to make a headboard as well as other items, but all seem to call for using studs and large nails.
Here's a DIY radiator cover that you could use to cover the pipe coming out of the wall and create a counter space for games: https://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/skills-and-know-how/carpentry-and-woodworking/how-to-build-a-radiator-cover
You can build the cabinet up around the one pipe that is in the wall and paint it the same as the wall, or just paint the white pipe the wall color like the other pipe was. If you know anyone that is a good artist, perhaps they could paint a moral on the wall that goes with your kids age and interests or their favorite game. You could put up nice shelves to hold games and equipment and pictures, perhaps with your kids having fun playing games with family or friends. Perhaps painting their game play space walls even just a brighter color would help making it look a bit higher end. I don't think that high end looks is necessary for a kids play space in a garage. A garage is a garage after all. I don't think kids will care if it is high end looking.
You could put kitchen cabinets on top of the wood box. Cut the backs where needed to fit the pipes. Put beadboard on the wood box to match the cabinets. You could even make a space in the middle for a tv if you want. The cabinets will give you storage to hold games, gaming consoles and a lot of other things.
Hang a nice velvet curtain to cover pipes and create a small stage for acting, plays, karaoke, singing, playing instruments, even just reading to other kids, presenting art they make & I see plug to add some nice lighting !
I would put tall cabinets on that wall, some with doors others open shelves. Hide the pipes, behind the doors but add shelves for game storage or arts and crafts.
I'm not sure where this wall is located in your home, but my first thought was mudroom storage! Cover the base in pretty wood of your choice- bench! Cover the back wall with ship lap and hang hooks. Or, if you are really brave, build in some cubbies!
The first thing you want to do is fill in around the pipe. Bugs, spiders, mice will love the opening.
