If you’re not going to buy a pre-made shower pan, then you’re going to have to hire a pro, as it should be hot-mopped and that requires building up the pan and using waterproof membrane, before the tile is installed.
With the shower pan, you’ll need to make sure the wall panels “drip” properly over the edge. The drain will require moving unless you buy a pan with the drain to the side.
If you’re going to tile the walls, or try to save the existing tile and add on to it, you’re looking at waterproof membrane and “Hardi-backer” busts and drip ledges.
Thank you cheryl yes iam doing everything from scratch... i have the shower lining and the red guard to water proof everything before i tile but i never done a shower floor specially in a second floor that's plywood...I've been looking at you tube videos.....
You should never tile over plywood. Must apply concrete board,, need at least,1 1/2" thickness to hold tile. Shower floor should be mud set and walls concrete board. Red Guard not as good. I would hire a pro to do the mud set. Not so easy to do the build up and angle down to the drain. Keep those tiles small.
