How do I replace the stripping around my refrigerator?

My freezer is about 6 cu ft "downright" ( vs upright) and it keeps getting frost build up faster than when it was newer. It is about 10 years old, maybe older.

We have the same problem. My husband checked online with the make and model. The problem is, a replacement gasket is about $100.

Mine is doing the same thing. I'll try Amazon or ebay for a replacement in hopes it will be cheaper!

    Hi Pamela,

    That is expensive!

Try going to a hardware store and see if they have generic rather then a make and model specific seal for your freezer, many carry them. You will need to measure to make sure you have the right replacement, also examine the replacement seal for cracks and tears before installing it.

Is it the gasket for sure? There’s the Defrost Timer components that go bad frequently.

Also check the Coil’s in the back of the refrigerator are not filled with dust and hair. Pull out your refrigerator and you’ll see the coils in the back and then just give them a gentle vacuuming. The seal is as mentioned above by others is easy to replace. You can tell that needs to be replaced if you’re getting mold on it as well.
