Putting tile over the marble in a tub would cause a cleaning nightmare. That gives mold and mildew numerous places to grow.
First you need to scuff the surface with 220 grit sandpaper to remove the shine. Then use tile mastic to adhere the tile. Thinset will not work.
Take a good photo or sample to your flooring salespeople and ask for their advice on both materials and technique.
I don't think this is a good long term solution. remove the marble first
