What is the best method to whitewash bricks surrounding a fireplace?
Just clean first, then go over it with thinned down paint.
I always use an off white paint. If the brick color is already a dark color just thin the paint out or spray the surface with water then paint over it. Allow it to sit for about 2 mins if that and then take a damp cloth and wipe it off. The dark colors will show through a bit and make it look old and rustic. If the main color isnt dark colors and you dont have to have a dark base color do the same with an off white paint and it should turn out perfect. You cant mess it up, have fun with it!!
Use a brush roller to spread the 1/2 water and 1/2 white paint over the bricks. Squeeze out or wipe off the roller so that you are dry-brushing the brick. I like to go from top down so that any drips become part of the design. Whitewashing can be a messy job, and should look like it. Happy Spring!
