Debora...You can use wood to make the frame and cover with tin.
You could use pvc and cover the frame with fabric. But how strudy do you need it to be? Also where you live will you have to contend with snow and if so how much? Do you get a lot of wind? Will these be mainly to keep the sun out or keep rain off the windows and/or side of the house?

This one will repeal rain and has a pvc frame for some strength in a light wind. Not intended for snow loads or very intense winds. I have seen a good selection of outdoor materials like this at Joann's fabrics. They run sales so that would help with the cost.

Hubby built one that withstood our big snow storm we had last month. Bought a piece of galvanized metal from Lowes. Attached it to a frame made of 2x4's. Simple and good looking since the color of the metal matched the color of the house. Works great for keeping the rain off the side of the house and windows.
