This is just a suggestion. Check out your local fabric store for outdoor fabric and recover them with zippered closures. You can dry your new cushions while they lie in the sun.
For the amount of work it would take, you should use outdoor fabric instead of bed sheets which will mold and rot by the end of summer. Use the old cushions' covers as your pattern.
I definitely agree that outdoor fabric is the best idea. The fabric outdoors takes a beating from the sun, rain, wind, etc. Sheet fabric will not last long.
