How to get a more homely look without using saws etc?
My wet room is divided in half when the shower curtain is closed. I've tried patterned curtains to take the clinical look away, but it was too loud and closed the room in more. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How about a simple coat of paint? It will offset the ‘clinical’ look make the shower curtain look good in contrast to the paint.
Catherine: I agree with Zard. Paint -- cheap and easy... paint with a color that makes you feel HAPPY! Then... look on a color wheel and pick a complementary color for the mirror frame (paint) and the shower curtain. Instant Happiness!
Another vote for paint. Use a soothing, spa like cover. Add in some warmth with wicker baskets and plants (fake are okay!) Add some art.
Looks like you have patterned towels in muted colors which is fine. You need pattern somewhere. So if you aren't comfortable with a patterned shower curtain then get a shower curtain in soft solid color that you are comfortable with to coordinate with those towels or new patterned towels. Add a piece of art or more than one. You could have one large piece of art over the towel rack and two small ones in place of the mirror. If you think you already have enough color then look for black and white photography. You might want to add a basket on the toilet to hold extra rolls of toilet tissue etc. Spray paint it in any color you like.
Of course painting the walls is always an option. Make a plan and coordinate everything so you won't be disappointed.
A solid colored curtain would be low cost and some sea green paint on walls

I love black & white bathrooms. You already have the white...! Only some black accents are needed : towels, trash can, carpet, some accessories, etc. You could even paint your ceiling in black... Strange but it makes the room looks bigger. Your shower curtain could be B&W too... But something with a discrete design...
Thank you all so much for your suggestions, brilliant ideas, whereas I was absolutely stuck for inspiration before. Am also so sorry for delaying in my replay as I've only just seen them all following an email alert. I am going to try the calm soft blues and greeens paint with accessories and hope to post an before and after pic when completed. Again thank you all and Hometalk, this is a great forum.
